The NAACO Gallery (North Adams Artists' Cooperative Gallery) is seeking applicants for membership who create high quality fine art, fine craft and applied art to be exhibited during the 2012 calendar year.
Who We Are: The goal of the NAACO Gallery is to showcase the work of regional and national artists, promote the sale of art, aid in establishing North Adams as an artistic tourist destination and to interface with local residents for the purpose of bringing to them an awareness of the work created by the artist community.
We began in 2008, as part of DownStreet Art (public art project that is a program of the MCLA Berkshire Cultural Resource Center). We have recently completed our first full year in our current location and are seeing continual growth in both attendance and sales. Just steps away from Mass MoCa and its highly acclaimed Sol LeWitt exhibition, we are anticipating a bright and inspired 2012. Please join us!
Eligibility: All visual artists residing in the northeast are encouraged to apply. Other artists from outside of the region are also welcome.
Membership: Open to all eligible artists through a juried process. Member artists can exhibit in one of two ways: as a Participating Member (limited number accepted) or as a Nonparticipating Member. NAACO Gallery features several monthly exhibitions per year (several of which may be solo or two-member shows), an optional bimonthly rotation of artwork, professional web site with individual artist portfolio pages (with a 24/7 online store) and additional exhibition opportunities with events such as the Art Studio Clearance Sale.
Participating Members are responsible for operating and staffing the gallery. They receive 80% of sales from their artwork (20% commission is retained by the gallery). They are responsible for staffing the gallery approximately 11-13 hours/month Participating Members will also be responsible for assisting with the monthly exhibitions and assisting with the set-up/clean-up of opening receptions. They are expected to attend occassional meetings to discuss exhibitions and promotions. All participating member applicants must be qualified in retail sales and must complete an in-person evaluation.
Nonparticipating Members receive the same benefits as Participating Members excepting no additional work is required. They receive 60% of sales from their artwork. They are welcome to attend meetings.
Monthly dues for all members are $40, due prior to the first of each month. Payments of artists' sales are made by the fifteenth of each month, for the previous month's sales.
Location: NAACO Gallery is located at 33 Main Street, in downtown North Adams. This is a prominent corner location at the intersection of Main and Marshall Streets/Route 8, featuring six large storefront windows and three beautiful gallery exhibition spaces within 2100 square feet. An "annex" gallery is featured across the hallway, has approx 600 square feet of exhibition and storage space. We refer to this gallery as "Through the Looking Glass".
Hours of Operation: Winter hours (November 1st through May 1st): Mondays, Thursdays-Saturdays, 11-6 PM, Sundays, 12-4 PM (closed Tuesdays, Wednesdays). After May 1st: Mondays, Wednesdays-Saturdays, 11-6 PM, Sundays, 11-4 PM (closed Tuesdays). Summer hours (late June through Oct 1st): Open every day, Monday through Friday, 11-6, Saturday, 10-6 and Sunday 10-4.
Exhibitions: The Front Hall Gallery features monthly exhibitions based on a theme or selected solo/two-person shows, at no additional cost for member-artists. In addition, there are “special events” (such as The Annual Art Studio Clearance Sale) which occur throughout the year.
To Apply: Please send FOUR images of the work you will be exhibiting along with the application. Images can be sent as photos or on a CD. Upon the jury's recommendations, you will promptly be notified of their decision and invitations for membership will be made via email or telephone. Application fee is $10 (check only, please) and made payable to NAACO Gallery, PO BOX 1123, North Adams, MA 01247.
Deadline: Friday, November 25, 2011. Notifications made by Monday, December 5th and artwork will be expected in the gallery by early January, 2012.
