MY MUSINGS:

quantum - Regardless of size, each of our pieces can stand alone; can exist independently. Each has its own alchemy- be it vibrating with color, evoking an emotion, or creating a space that allows mystery to enter.

oasis - Each of our pieces is a world onto its own. Each detail in the work serves to support the whole.
           - Is a place of convergence, offering shelter and nourishment for all life forms.
           - Is a sweep of color rising up from the hardened landscape surrounding it.

Energy can neither be created nor destroyed, it can only change form. The work we do gets taken away in the hearts/ psyches of others. A work that allows another to really connect with it is life giving and soul quenching.

Diane Sullivan

Ceramist Diane Sullivan

I work with earthenware paper clay to handbuild my ceramic self-portraits. They wear different disguises, sometimes paired with found objects, most recently from old dollhouses. The theme of home and the domestic issues that tend to take us over are relevant and universal. Renovating an old Victorian house has influenced my narrative to include the funny, sweet and sometimes messy business of daily life. Recycling the simple dollhouse materials and furniture that I loved as a child reminds me that creating a world can be fun, and that building a life with a loved one and living a creative life in our home is all I need.
