The truth of life is that everything is always changing. Nothing stays the same. All is impermanent. Anything that comes into form, whether it be a molecule, a living being, a planet….anything…eventually disappears. It is only an illusion that things are meant to last forever. As far back as 2600 years ago it was said that we humans are made of trillions of particles that rapidly come and go. Today science confirms this and demonstrates that these particles are mostly empty space. We and our world are much less solid than it appears.
In “Here So Lightly”, I have used the properties of a primitive pin-hole lens coupled with a high resolution camera to subtly deconstruct our everyday reality. The effect is further enhanced by carefully selecting a watercolor paper treated to create an archival printing medium. People and objects take on an ethereal quality. Subjects may step off a defined path or exist only on the margins of the frame. Knowing this to be the true nature of our earthly experience, how then do we live our lives?
