IN THE GALLERY

"Full Body Scanners"

On exhibit August 26 - September 29

Opening Reception: Thursday, August 26th, 6-9 pm

Walkin' the Dog by Kelly Lee

"Walkin' the Dog", Sayulita, Mexico, 2010, Photograph, 19" x 13", by Kelly Lee

This exhibition has a lot to say. Like the intrusive view the government has ordered at airports, the art for this exhibition may do the same. Literally, the theme may simply represent an x-ray of something. Though, one may also interpret this theme as something private being revealed or forced to be seen by another and lastly, as a way we must conform as our liberties are slowly being taken away.

  COMING UP:

"You Can't Get There From Here"

Exhibit open September 30 - October 28

Fireflight by Anna Rowinski

Opening Reception:

Thursday, September 30, 6-8 pm

At first glance, the theme relates to journeys (maps, topography) and distances. Though, this is for exploration. Some may choose to interpret this theme with regard to artistic barriers or road blocks that a small town may present (something that is preventing them from going further). It is a way to address and announce the limitations and/or frustrations in which the artist may find himself.

PAST EXHIBITIONS:

"Icons, Symbols, Street Signs"

In the Gallery July 28 - August 22

 Photograph by Dawn Guild

"A Tree Spoke to Me" Archival pigmented inkjet print, 10" x 10", by Dawn Guild

As the title suggests, we are featuring graphic images or representations that are iconic, ubiquitous and/or universal, during any time period, within any culture--real or not. Should be interesting!

"TAKING FLIGHT"

In the Gallery June 23 - July 25

Acrylic on canvas by Anna Rowinski

With the start of a new season of DownStreet Art 2010, the members of NAACO present a juried show featuring fine art and craft that is meant to "soar".

Some have interpreted this theme literally by creating objects that are representations of flying creatures while fine artists who work in two dimensions have chosen to represent something airborne, such as a baseball!

However, there are also those artists who viewed this theme as a challenge to take a new direction or step elsewhere, artistically.

"Back to BASICS"

In the Gallery May 27 through June 21

Painting by Tony Conner

"Time Gone By" watercolor by Tony Conner

Simplification is obvious but the artist may choose to go back to his/her beginnings, as an artist.

We all have arrived at our current art/state through a series of
progressive steps...perhaps, the work for this exhibition re-examines
where we came from, literally or figuratively.

"Shifting Perspectives"

The Work of Cynthia Lewis and Linda Siska

In the Gallery March 25 - April 26

Gallery Exhibition:

"Shifting Perspectives" is a two-member exhibition featuring the work of papermaker, Cynthia Lewis and ceramic artist, Linda Siska. In an exhibit entitled, “Shifting Perspectives”, each artist delivers a body of new work that describes her current relationship with her respective medium.

"JUST DESSERTS"

In the Gallery: February 25 - March 22

 Ed Carson oil painting

"Blueberry Pie" by Ed Carson, oil on panel, 9" x 12"

The sweet and not-so-sweet juried art exhibition featuring fine art and fine craft created by its members and nonmember regional artists.

As the title of the exhibition suggests, a representational array of non-edible artistic delights and objects associated with serving dessert will adorn the gallery’s front hall exhibition space. Not all of the art has a literal interpretation of being something sweet, however, as "just desserts" can suggest something entirely different!

"Fresh Paint, Hot Pots, Dressed Wood"

In the Gallery: January 28 - February River Rocks by Sharon Carson22

An exhibition of our continuing members' latest masterpieces and the introduction of our newest members to the public. While "fresh paint" will fill the air with "just off the easel paintings", "hot pots" will emerge from the kiln with surprises in store for both artist and viewer and functional, turned wood makes its appearance to our pedestals for the first time. This is the inaugural exhibition of the year that features the work of our members only and we welcome new member-artists: Sharon Carson, Robert Colantuono, Joe Comi, Tony Conner, Bill Guild, Lane Koster, Joel Rudnick and Diane Sullivan to our gallery.

"ORNAMENT"

In the gallery December 2 thru January 25

festivities

NAACO Gallery presents it's December group show of NAACO member work. Just in time for the holiday season, this exhibition explores the concept of "ornament." Works on display range from decorative two-dimensional pieces to interpretive works and literal objects that can be hung on your Christmas tree or in your window as ornaments. Don't miss this holiday show - work makes perfect gifts!

"Festivities" by Katherine Borkowski-Byrne, Acrylic on paper, 19 7/8" x 26 7/8" (framed)

"OUT OF THE BOX"

In the Gallery September 24 through October 18

Out of the Box is a month-long exhibition of NAACO gallery members. Members may show work that uses media that differs from that found in their primary body of work, explore new forms of expression, or investigate the path of a different creative process. For those who've visited the gallery before, "Out of the Box" will provide a fresh "twist" on artists whose work you might be familiar with. If you haven't visited the gallery yet, this is the time to do so, since this this is the final Thursday DownStreet Art event!
