Leslie has lived in rural areas all of her life. Growing up in Putnam County, New York along the Hudson River, then moving to the Pioneer Valley and western Franklin County, Massachusetts in her early adulthood, she has constantly gravitated to nature, simple living and the arts. Being a black woman with such a background as hers, Leslie has been able to see the impact of her experiences contrasted to those of many minorities that dwell within an urban context. leslie desires to share her experiences with people of all ages. her focus mainly is re-introducing children and adults to their connection with the earth, community and themselves.
Leslie is an artist. Her media spans from photography and glassblowing, to painting and stained glass. She is a graduate of Greenfield Community College with a Fine Arts degree in Painting, and has just a little more time at Massachusetts College of Art aiming for a BFA in Glass Art. Leslie is a co-founder of the Shelburne Falls Arts Cooperative, and the owner of two businesses. Of Color and Light and Bigfish Painters.
As an artist, I intend to explore the world around me, and then interpret and convey my perspective in varied forms of two-dimensional and three-dimensional visual art. The concepts and themes that I communicate with are formal and academic, practical and tactile. I work with many media. Photography, glass, painting and installation are innate in most forms of my expression. Issues that relate to form and function, transparency and color are very important to me in my process. I intend my art to integrate into society to enhance everyday life, and to prompt introspection and awareness of social issues that concern me and affect the human condition as a whole.
"Just a note to again say 'thanks so very much' for your assisting me in being able to purchase a Deb Pendell piece...when visiting the area again, I will make sure to stop by and hopefully support the Co-op once more."
